We develop a detailed model of the Milky Way (a `prototypical' disk galaxy) and extend it to other disks with the help of
some simple scaling relations, obtained in the framework of Cold Dark Matter models. This phenomenological (`hybrid') approach
to the study of disk galaxy evolution allows us to reproduce successfully a large number of observed properties of disk galaxies
in the local Universe and up to redshift z ∼ 1. The important conclusion is that, on average, massive disks have formed the bulk of their stars earlier than their lower
mass counterparts: the `star formation hierarchy' has been apparently opposite to the `dark matter assembly' hierarchy. It
is not yet clear whether `feedback' (as used in semi-analytical models of galaxy evolution) can explain that discrepancy.

bdAbstract The open cluster NGC 2818 containing a planetary nebula has been observed inVRI bands using the CCD system at prime focus of the 2.3-metre Vainu Bappu Telescope. The study extending to starsV ∼ 21 magnitude establishes the distance modulus as(m-M)
0 = 12.9 ±0.1 for the cluster. Based on the fitting of theoretical isochrones computed for solar metallicity, an age of 5(±1)
× 108 years has been assigned to the cluster. Association of the planetary nebula with the cluster indicates that the progenitor
mass of the planetary nebula on the main sequence is ≥2.5M⊙

A research that we conducted in 1963 on the evolution of the binaries based on the available orbital data to obtain a philosophical
degree, led to the establishment of an interesting and new diagram between the logarithm of the total mass and a particular
parameterX, bound to the areal constant. This appeared to have a real physical significance but the basic observational material was
insufficiently extended to assure its undeniable existence. In 1981, a new research based on a more extended orbital material,
has confirmed this diagram. Presently, another important increase in the orbital material and the availability of highly accurate
trigonometric parallaxes produced by the Hipparcos satellite, gave us the opportunity to confirm once more the stability of
